Hauklogaland
Munch’s enemies appear as various herds here. Foremost among them, aside from Christian Krohg and Gunnar Heiberg, was “Thore Hund from Hauklogaland”. This is a play on the name Tore Hund from Hålogaland (a previous name for Nordland County and a greater part of Troms County) and refers to the author and journalist Andreas Haukland from Mosjøen. Munch had had a fist to cuff confrontation with Haukland in Copenhagen in 1904. Munch perceived this fight as part of a greater conspiracy against him, and in this text he often calls it “the Haukland affair”.
