Madame Heiberg

Literary character presumably based on Milly Thaulow, with whom Munch entered a relationship in the summer of 1885, during a stay in Åsgårdstrand. It is possible that the name Madame Heiberg was inspired by the Danish actress Johanne Louise Heiberg (1812–1890), who was a well-known figure even in Norway. Her memoirs were published posthumously in1892.
