Madame D

Literary character presumably based on Milly Thaulow, with whom Munch entered a relationship in the summer of 1885, during a stay in Åsgårdstrand. Madame D appears in T 2761, early in the portrayal of her romance with Brandt, in the encounter by the carriage after his arrival by boat from Kristiania. It is likely that Madame D is the same literary character that is given the name Madame Heiberg later in the text.
