“The Herd of Wholesalers or the Herd of Kalvinger or Kvalier” are a reference to the couple Tulla Larsen and Arne Kavli. As we know, Larsen was the daughter of an affluent wholesaler, and by rewriting the name Kavli here, Arne Kavli is compared to the antihero Kalv Arnesson from the Battle of Stiklestad.
